Employee Birthday Party for October

Three members of our construction crew celebrated birthdays in the month of October. Paco turned 18 on October 5th, Carlos turned 45 on the 17th and Francisco turned 21 on the 26th of October. After some ribbing about how aged our crew is becoming, we all enjoyed some birthday cake and coke together. This picture shows all three "Birthday Boys"! Notice the new hard hats that Carlos & Francisco are wearing. Each hat has the official Hacienda logo and the employee's name proudly displayed on the front ...thanks to Hugo & Martin who did the print work on the kids computer & printer. By the way, Martin will celebrate his next birthday on November 16th!

"Bridges to Tomorrow" ...Construction is Started!

The early results of our capital campaign named "Bridges to Tomorrow" are shown in these construction pictures. The first photo was taken on the first day our construction began, Monday, October 17, '05. And after five days of hard work, the second photo was taken today. It is a great moment in God's project here to see the start of this next home for the abandoned children of Ecuador! God has worked so faithfully in causing the hearts of many of you reading this to generously fund this construction process. To Him be the glory for what is shown in these pictures!

A Visit to "It's About Kids"

Last week Patricia & I along with Kent & Sharla Marcum were hosted by Ron & Sharon Stiff, Directors of a wonderful project named "It's About Kids". Quito is the location of "Montebello" where 10 beautiful children, formally from abandoned circumstances, now call their new home. Ron & Sharon have been in Ecuador about the same amount of time as we have and were a joy to come to know. Ron excitedly gave us a tour of their new "School of Tomorrow" and introduced us to the outstanding curriculum which was selected as the course of study from K - 12. We shared our struggles and joys over lunch with all of the kids which was deliciously prepaired by Sharon! We learn a lot and had a good day, but the unfolding of a bright new friendship was the best part of the experience!

Jorge is 8 years old!

As you can see, Jorge is one excited boy in this picture taken last night at his birthday celebration. He read aloud his birthday card and quickly opened his present. Everyone enjoyed his cake and home made ice cream afterward. The Ecuadorian tradition at birthday parties is to serve the birthday cake with a bowl of popcorn and maybe some jello.
